🏕️❄️ Buffalo Creek Winter Camping — Small Group
Join us for a one-night winter camping adventure at Buffalo Creek! This will be a small-group getaway with 10–20 people maximum, focused on good conversation, enjoying the winter wilderness, exploring, and spending time together outdoors.
Winter camping offers a completely different experience from traditional camping, with peaceful forests, crisp mountain air, beautiful scenery, and the opportunity to disconnect from everyday life.
To help maintain a balanced gender ratio, after the first five people sign up, we will alternate adding one woman and one man from the waitlist.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: THIS IS WINTER CAMPING
This is not a typical camping trip. Winter camping requires proper preparation, equipment, and an understanding of cold-weather conditions.
Temperatures at Buffalo Creek can drop well below freezing overnight, and snow, ice, and rapidly changing weather conditions are possible.
You must come prepared for freezing temperatures and have the appropriate clothing, sleeping gear, and camping equipment to stay warm and safe throughout the night.
If you do not have the proper equipment or experience to safely manage winter conditions, this may not be the right trip for you.
Please take this seriously. Staying warm and dry overnight is essential for your safety.
🚗 Meeting & Carpooling
Everyone will meet us directly at the designated Buffalo Creek camping location.
Because parking space is limited, we strongly encourage everyone to carpool whenever possible. We would like to keep the number of vehicles at the campsite to a minimum.
Carpooling will be organized through our WhatsApp group leading up to the trip. We’ll coordinate drivers and passengers there.
If you absolutely need to drive yourself, please let us know ahead of time so we can make sure there is enough parking available.
Winter road conditions may require additional preparation, so please ensure your vehicle is equipped for potentially snowy or icy roads.
⛺ What to Expect
We’ll arrive at Buffalo Creek, get camp set up while there’s still daylight, and settle in for a relaxing night in the winter wilderness.
Expect:
🌲 Beautiful winter forests and mountain scenery
❄️ Potential snow-covered landscapes and winter exploring
🔥 Gathering around a propane fire pit if fire restrictions allow
🍳 Cooking and enjoying your own meals at camp
🌌 Stargazing under the clear winter sky
☕ Hot drinks and cozy conversations
🗣️ Plenty of time to connect, meet new people, and disconnect from everyday life
🌄 Waking up to a peaceful winter morning before packing up and heading home
Everyone is responsible for bringing, preparing, and cooking their own food. There will not be organized or shared meals.
This is intentionally a small-group trip, so the goal is to create a more relaxed and connected camping experience.
🧤 What to Bring
Proper winter camping equipment is essential. Please do not underestimate how cold it can get overnight.
🧥 Clothing & Warmth
Insulated winter jacket
Warm pants or insulated snow pants
Thermal base layers (top and bottom)
Multiple pairs of wool or warm socks
Winter hat or beanie
Insulated gloves or mittens
Waterproof winter boots
Extra dry clothing for sleeping
Neck gaiter or scarf
🏕️ Sleeping & Camping Equipment
Four-season tent or appropriate winter-ready shelter
Winter-rated sleeping bag appropriate for the forecasted overnight low
Insulated sleeping pad with an appropriate winter R-value
Extra blankets for additional warmth
Tent stakes and camping equipment
Headlamp or flashlight
Portable phone charger
Camping chair
🍳 Food & Personal Supplies
Your own meals and snacks
Winter-compatible camping stove and cooking supplies
Plenty of drinking water
Insulated water bottles or thermos
Personal toiletries
Any medications or personal essentials
Hand warmers
Trash bags
Important: A warm sleeping bag alone is not enough. An insulated sleeping pad is equally important for preventing heat loss to the frozen ground.
When in doubt, bring extra layers. It’s much better to have too many warm clothes than not enough!
