Michelle von Emster, 25, was found dead off the coast of San Diego in 1994 after two surfers discovered her body.

Her right leg was missing from mid-thigh, she had extensive wounds, a broken neck, and sand was found in her stomach and other organs. Investigators initially concluded she had been killed by a great white shark.

However, some experts later argued that her injuries were inconsistent with a shark attack, leaving the exact circumstances of her death disputed.
