This is a rescheduling of the Portland Bridge paddle due to the algae blooms. Crossing our fingers that we will have some rain before this to flush out the river.

Meeting Spot: Cathedral Park, day use access at the bottom of Pittsburgh ave by the river. We will be shuttling to the launch from this location.

This is an Intermediate moving water paddle. Please read the full description of the event before signing up. Everyone will go on the waitlist and will only be moved to going after being approved by the hosts.

1. This is a shuttle paddle starting in Milwaukee and ending at to Cathedral Park. -It is 12.5 miles of slow moving water. Solid boat handling skills are needed due to mileage and river traffic of other boats.
2. Only people who have paddled with us before will be accepted for this paddle and the number of people will be capped.

Our paddles have grown in popularity. Priority will be given to people who have done the following:

1. Donated to support the Portland Kayaking Meetup group expenses, if you would like to do this details are below.
2. People who have attended paddles with us previously, people that we know, are active on our facebook page, and are generally supportive of the group.
3. Have a good attendance record. We hate to tell people a paddle is full, but it’s even worse when someone doesn’t show up and we have turned others away.

Meeting site will be the take out at cathedral park boat ramp / google maps link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/hfH3fGPCX8cB2GfW8?gst=ic

Expected distance: 12.5 miles of slow moving water with boat traffic

Parking Pass / Fee: tbd

Minimum boat length: 10’ or longer.
(Some paddles are appropriate for any boat, others are can be more technical and for safety will need double hull or other floatation as a minimum.)

What to bring:

A kayak
Personal Flotation Device (PFD) and whatever else you need to keep safe
Something to keep your essentials dry. (key fobs and phones don’t work well when wet)
whistle -
Sun protection
Weather-appropriate clothing
Water and snacks

We love when you bring friends but they do need to sign up individually so they agree to the terms and conditions as this is an active event that has risks. Hosts / organizers on Meetup are unpaid volunteers and claim no special expertise or knowledge.

We will paddle as a group but ultimately you are responsible for your own experience, safety and decision-making. You are responsible for your gear, and for your safety

PFD’s are required to be worn while on the water at all events.
Alcohol free event. Best to celebrate after.

Don’t forget oregon requires an Oregon water ways permit: they can be purchased digitally here: https://www.oregon.gov/osmb/boater-info/pages/ais-faqs.aspx

As part of the sign up process we will ask if you have read this entire post, if you have a shuttle buddy and if you are able to transport more than one boat. If I have not personally paddled with you please share your recent experience paddling at this distance.
