This is a beautiful 5 to 6 mile loop with 1,700 ft elevation gain. We start by climbing up a high ridge with views to the north passing up and over Chataqua Mountain (8,340 ft elevation). From the peak of Chautauqua Mountain, we have breathtaking views of Palmer Lake, Palmer Ridge, and the plains east of Monument. Going down the ridge the trail winds between boulders and includes brief climbs and descents. There is one tiny stream crossing toward the trail's finish as we circle back hiking past the Palmer reservoirs.
We will meet at 9:30 AM at the Monument Park and Ride (exit 161, CO 105 from I25) for carpooling. There is a small parking fee at the TH.
Sorry, Dogs are not allowed near Palmer Reservoir.
