After our last book choice, this is a hard turn. No recipes, no memoir, no gentle friendship. All Consuming: Why We Eat the Way We Eat Now by Ruby Tandoh is our choice for September. Tandoh asks how food went from a fact of life to a national pastime — something thought about and talked about around the clock, and traces the social, economic, cultural and demographic forces that have reshaped our relationship with it. Bubble tea, restaurant queues, TikTok critics, supermarket engineering, trad wives, Viennetta. It ends up asking how much our tastes are actually our own. Which, for a room full of people who queue, photograph, post and argue about food, is a delightfully slightly uncomfortable question. It won the Fortnum & Mason Food Book of the Year 2026, so it's having a moment. Haven't read it? Come anyway. It's built as essays, so you can dip in and still have plenty to say — and honestly, everyone at this table already has opinions about food culture whether they've read the book or not. What matters more is that you love food and you're up for being open and real with the people you're sitting with. Thursday 24 September, 19h, Onze Onze. Limited seats.
