“Do not seek for things to happen the way you want them to; rather wish that what happens happens the way it happens, then you will be happy.” -Epictetus, Enchiridion 7.

Stoicism is sometimes accused of being a passive philosophy whereby one is expected to quietly endure whatever life throws at us without at complaint, and at first glance amor fati appears to be a prime example of this. But, as always, the Stoics mean something much deeper. “It means releasing our own need to control what happens – or what we think should happen in a perfect world – and instead work dynamically and responsively with what is actually her in front of us.” (Brittany Polat, Jesus and Stoicism, p178)

This month we ask what it really means to accept, and even love, our fate and how can this lead us to live a good life?

We invite you to join us for a lively discussion about Stoic principles and practice, and how they can help us to live a good life. All are welcome, whether you are well versed in Stoicism, a Stoic novice, or are simply curious to learn more.
