Software Engineering: Extinction or Evolution?

AI is changing software engineering at a pace that is difficult to ignore, but how much has actually changed, and what does it mean for the people building software today?
Beyond the Code’s first live panel brings together an elite panel of experts for a candid discussion about what AI is genuinely changing on the ground, what is still hype, and what the future could mean for engineering teams and individual careers.
The panel will be split into two distinct halves:
1. What’s Actually Changed? AI coding tools, copilots, agents and increasingly capable models are already changing how software is built. But beyond the headlines, what does that look like in practice?
2. Betting on What Survives. Looking beyond the current wave of AI adoption, what might software engineering look like in the years ahead, and how should people prepare for it?
The aim is not to predict the future with certainty, but to have a frank, practical conversation about the signals worth watching and what engineers and organisations can do about them.
Whether you're building software, leading engineering teams, hiring technical talent or thinking about where your own career goes next, this event will offer a practical look at what AI is really changing and what may be next.
Expect drinks, pizzas and lots of discussions around the room.
Panelists
Abby Bangser, Founding Principal Engineer, Syntasso
David Denton, Independent Lead Engineer, http4k
Dom Maurice, AI Developer Coach
Louis Thorne, Associate Director, SGI
Jon Courtois, Director of Engineering, Sky
