English Book Club - September

Upcoming Book Club Meetings at Közkincs Könyvtár

Join us this autumn as we explore two thought-provoking books that couldn't be more different: an award-winning Taiwanese historical novel and a sharp, timely collection of essays on artificial intelligence and the future of society.

Whether you've read every page, are still making your way through the book, or simply enjoy listening to great conversations, you're warmly welcome to join us.

September Book Club Meeting

Book: Taiwan Travelogue - Yáng Shuāng-zǐ

Date: September 30

Time: 7:00 PM

Location: Közkincs Könyvtár

Winner of the 2024 National Book Award for Translated Literature, Taiwan Travelogue is a beautifully layered novel that blends travel writing, food, history, and identity. Set in Japanese-ruled Taiwan during the 1930s, it offers a fascinating glimpse into colonialism, language, culture, and memory through the evolving relationship between two women on a journey across the island. Rich in atmosphere and symbolism, it promises plenty to discuss.

October Book Club Meeting

Book: The Reverse Centaur's Guide to Life After AI - Cory Doctorow

Date: October 28

Time: 7:00 PM

Location: Közkincs Könyvtár

In October, we'll turn our attention to one of today's most talked-about topics: artificial intelligence. Cory Doctorow's engaging and accessible essays challenge many of the assumptions surrounding AI, technology, creativity, and the future of work. Rather than focusing on science fiction, the book encourages us to think critically about how technology is shaped by politics, economics, and the choices we make as a society, making it an ideal starting point for a lively discussion.
