While we would never of course resort to such gimmicks as a Halloween Night Special, we just happen to be discussing the literary themes of horror and the supernatural in our next session on 30th October. Purely coincidental. And we may dress up as vampires.
Actually no, we won't do that. At least you don't have to.
Anyway, Shirley Jackson. We Have Always Lived in the Castle has been described as her masterpiece among a number of renowned horror novels written between the 1940's and 1962, when this her last novel was published. Described as a gothic psychological horror, it is narrated by the 18-year old Mary Katherine Blackwood, who lives with the surviving members of her family in a large - and presumably creepy - old house.
Pretty sure there won't be any vampires though.
Come along in any case for a relaxed discussion and a drink, location to be announced soon. €2 contributions gratefully received!
