Join us for hiking and history at Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill outside of La Grange. We will take an easy hike through the 2+ miles of mostly gravel trails which wind around the property and brewery ruins. There will be elevation change and steep switchbacks on the trail. We will also be given a tour of the historic Kreische home and visit the Tomb and Monument where the remains of the Republic of Texas soldiers killed during the Dawson and Mier Expeditions lie.
Heinrich Kreische emigrated from Germany in 1846. He was a stone mason by trade. By the early 1870's he began operation of a brewery. By 1878 the brewery was the third largest in Texas.
The Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill is a state historic site. The entry fee is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for seniors/veteran/teacher/ first responders.
Afterwards join us for food and drink in LaGrange.
Participants must sign a Liability Waiver at the trailhead. You may view the waiver document: https://tinyurl.com/SCSignUpSheet2020 .
If not already a member, we encourage you to join the Sierra Club (the national club, not just the Meetup group) and help protect the environment and our democracy.
