Pen y Fan Horseshoe – 9.3 Miles

A few members of the group have expressed an interest in climbing Pen y Fan, so I thought I’d put this one on!

Join us for a challenging and scenic 9.5-mile horseshoe walk taking in the four main peaks of the Brecon Beacons: Fan y Big, Cribyn, Pen y Fan and Corn Du.

Starting from Neuadd Car Park, the route begins with a steady ascent through the woodland valley before opening out onto the exposed mountain ridges. Along the way, we’ll experience spectacular views across Bannau Brycheiniog National Park and summit Pen y Fan – the highest peak in South Wales.

🚗 TRAVEL
As it is a fair journey to the start point, I suggest once we know who is attending, we can arrange a convenient meet point to car share.

⚠️ Please note: This is a strenuous walk with some steep ascents and descents, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. The mountain weather can change quickly, and the ridges can be very exposed, windy and cold, so please come prepared with suitable footwear and layered clothing.

🥟 FOOD & DRINK
We will stop halfway for lunch. Please ensure you have enough water and food for the whole hike.

🐕 Dogs are welcome, but please make sure your dog is fit enough for the distance and steep sections. Dogs should be kept on leads, particularly on the exposed ridges, and there are likely to be free-roaming sheep.

🌤️ WEATHER

If bad weather is forecast, the walk will be cancelled the day before.

If the weather is horrendous on the day it will be cancelled on the morning of the walk, by 8:00 am
