Another last-minute addition. Come see the NEW Director's Cut of Ken Russell's highly controversial 1971 film, The Devils that tells the story of Father Urbain Grandier (Oliver Reed), a charismatic, proud priest who rules over the autonomous walled city of Loudun. We'll catch the Saturday 1:30PM showing at the Coolidge Corner Theater followed by coffee and a chat at Temptations Cafe.

CONTENT WARNING: This film is rated NC17 for sexual violence, provocative sexual imagery, witchcraft, language, violence and torture. Those who follow Ken Russell's work will know his track record for making controversial films that challenge institutions. Upon its initial 1971 release, this film was rated X and banned in many regions. In short, this film is pretty gnarly - I just wanted to provide fair warning.

Description: Ken Russell's 1971 psychological horror-drama film The Devils is an historical account of the real-world Loudun possessions and the subsequent trial and execution of Father Urbain Grandier. Based on Aldous Huxley’s 1952 book The Devils of Loudun and John Whiting's 1960 play, the film serves as a relentless critique of political corruption, religious hypocrisy, and the weaponization of faith.

We'll be checking out the 1:30PM showing this Saturday (Oct 17th) at the Coolidge Corner Theater - you can purchase tickets HERE. Seating is not assigned, so we'll try to get in line and settled early for ideal seating.

1PM: Meet in the Coolidge Corner Theater lobby.

1:15PM: Pick up concessions > get seated.

1:30PM: Film starts. Run time is 114 minutes. Expected finish time is ~3:30PM.

Afterwards: Walk on over to the Temptations Cafe around the corner for a coffee and film debrief.
