The Psychology of Spirituality & Religion

People find meaning, purpose, comfort, and direction in life in different ways. For many people, spirituality and/or religion play an important role in this process. People also find meaning through relationships, philosophy, personal values, nature, creativity, and their own experiences.
Spirituality and religion can offer a sense of connection to something greater than ourselves, a framework for understanding life, a source of hope during difficult times, and practices that encourage reflection, gratitude, compassion, or inner peace.
At the same time, it's interesting to ask whether these benefits are unique to spirituality and religion, or whether we can develop similar qualities and experiences without adopting any spiritual or religious beliefs.
In this group discussion, we'll explore questions such as:

1. What does spirituality mean to us, and how does it differ from religion?
2. What role do spirituality and religion play in people's personal development and everyday lives?
3. Can spirituality or religion help us find meaning, purpose, and direction in life? How?
4. What psychological benefits might come from spiritual or religious practices, such as meditation, prayer, gratitude, or mindfulness?
5. Can we develop the same qualities, experiences, and sense of meaning without being spiritual or religious?
6. Does believing in something greater than ourselves help us cope with uncertainty, suffering, and difficult experiences?
7. What might be missing from our lives if we completely exclude spirituality or religion? And what might we gain?

This is an open group discussion, not an expert talk or workshop. The idea is to exchange experiences, questions, and perspectives, whether we are religious, spiritual, or neither, and see what we can learn from one another.
No particular beliefs or previous knowledge are required. Come ready to share, listen, and explore the topic together.
We will also have time to talk about ourselves and brainstorm ideas for future meetups.
See you soon.
