THE GODFATHER (1972) by Francis Ford Coppola

We'll be meeting at the William's Cafe in Waterloo at 170 University Ave. West, as previously discussed (as stated on other event pages, Meetup isn't updated on this location for some mysterious reason, so apologies for any confusion). - Barry

If anyone needs a lift to Waterloo, reach out to Steve or Peter (GFS Co-Organizers/ shamans) and we'll figure something out! - Steve

“Coppola was able to take a trashy pulp novel and turn it into something close to Shakespeare; a sweeping, epic tale of family, crime, corruption and the Immigrant experience in America.” - Megan Fisher

“‘The Godfather’ is the most memorable, most influential, most quoted, most beloved, most discussed, most imitated, most revered and most entertaining American movie ever made.” (Chicago Sun-Times)

“One of Hollywood's greatest critical and commercial successes, The Godfather gets everything right; not only did the movie transcend expectations, it established new benchmarks for American cinema.” - Rotten Tomatoes

With so many decades since the Godfather movies were made, do they still hold relevance for viewers today? Personally, when I rewatch The Godfather Parts I and II, they still land beautifully. (horribly?) ‘Unflinching’ comes to mind.

One of our members wanted to see the original GODFATHER film (her baptism by fire is coming right up). Then the consensus developed that we MUST discuss the whole trilogy. 🙂 I'm excited and I look forward to our first discussion!

All three parts can be viewed using Paramount streaming and via fsharetv.cc

The GPL has DVDs of all three parts, plus a Blu-ray of Part I. These are all the Coppola restoration versions. The KPL and the WPL have all three on DVD. The KPL has multiple copies.

These movies are not so available online. If you have DVD copies you are willing to lend out, that may be appreciated. Barry is lending out his GF Trilogy DVD boxset. Please ask for details in the group chat.

Our schedule:

Sun Nov 22nd - The Godfather Part II, 3h 22m (Guelph)
Sun Nov 29th - The Godfather Part III, 2h 41m (Guelph)
