'The London of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle & Sherlock Holmes' Guided Walk

Come along on Sunday 27th September for a Blue Badge Guided Walk on Sherlock Holmes and his creator; Sir Arthur Conan Doyle! Blue Badge Guides know London better than anyone. They have trained intensively for two years and passed the highest Tourist Guiding qualification in the UK. About the walk Travel back to the London of fogs and horse drawn cabs as we follow the footsteps of Sherlock Holmes and his creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. We will start in elegant St James’s, home to the “Diogenes Club” frequented by Mycroft Holmes and take in several locations mentioned in the novels and short stories featuring Doyle’s famous fictional detective. An embassy, hotels, historic shops, the home of the Metropolitan Police and a library all feature. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930) was a Scottish writer and physician most noted for his fictional stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes. Holmes made his first appearance in 'A Study of Scarlet', published in 'Beeton's Christmas Annual' in 1887. Its success encouraged Conan Doyle to write more stories involving Holmes but, in 1893, Conan Doyle killed off Holmes, hoping to concentrate on more serious writing. A public outcry later made him resurrect Holmes. In addition, Conan Doyle wrote a number of other novels, including 'The Lost World' and various non-fictional works. The walk is a private walk for the group, we will be guided by Blue Badge guide Diane Burstein and Vicky Bailey. Vicky will be starting at 2:15pm and Diane at 2:30pm, so on the day, just come along at your chosen time.
