A nine-mile hike on some very pleasant trails on the outskirts of Roosevelt, NJ. This is an out-and-back with a few loops thrown in. Along the way we will pass through deciduous forests, some open fields, and visit two serene lakes.
Brisk pace. Bring lunch. We will stop somewhere along the way for lunch, so it's a good idea to bring something to sit on.
The hike starts at a small parking area on Rochdale Ave, just north of the historic town of Roosevelt. Be alert for this lot, it is easy to miss! If the lot is full, you can park on Oscar Drive, which is a very short walk away. There is also a parking area on Rochdale across the street, but I am not sure if it is a legal parking area.
We will start by heading east on the Rocky Brook Trail and wind our way all the way to Aggress Rd and then Perrineville Lake. On the way back we will do a segment of the Quail Run Trail. Terrain is mostly flat with some gentle hills. These are very nice trails with a large variety of trees. Total elevation gain is about 550 feet.
Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to find parking, sign in, and hear the safety talk.
OCSJ members only. The only port-a-john is at Agress Road a few miles into the hike.
My cell number, for hike day only, is 609 577-9365.
If you need to cancel please do so at least 24 hours ahead of time.
p.s. Do not get sucked into signing up for Meet Up Plus. We do not approve of the app permitting people to cut the line and jump over hikers on the waiting list.
