White Nights - Luchino Visconti (Italy, 1957, 1h 41m)

paging Dostoyevsky fans.

Book Club: The movie is based on Dostoyevsky's eponyous book. It is about 85 pages. There are multiple copies in ebook format available at Austin Public Library to check out. We will have an informal bookclub discussion on the book and the movie after the screening.

“Immaculately realized and restored … WHITE NIGHTS is an undeniable technical achievement — a loveless, albeit self-loving, film about the nature of love.”
—The New York Times
Marcello Mastroianni and Maria Schell star in Luchino Visconti’s emotionally resonant adaptation of Dostoyevsky’s novella. As always, Visconti leads the viewer into the emotional world of the characters with subtlety, tenderness, and precision.
