He began his career at Sony Music in Tokyo in 1995 and was headhunted by Warner Music in 2004, producing ten million-selling hits in Japan before moving to a lakeside forest in New Zealand in 2010 to fulfill a long-held dream. He learned the art of ‘letting go’ through three very different stages of life: difficult school years, the corporate battlefield in Tokyo, and a life close to nature in New Zealand. Today, he lives there with his family, pursuing a self-sufficient life with less pressure from time and money. Daisuke has published ten books in Japan, including several bestsellers. Every one is about letting go rather than adding more. His book Let Go: 50 Lessons from Japanese Minimalism to Set You Free is set for publication in 23 countries. The original Japanese edition sparked a nationwide minimalist boom. A pioneer of Japan’s digital nomad and trekking movements, he is the first Japanese ambassador for both Greenpeace Japan and Fairtrade Japan. He also leads LifestyleDesign.Camp, an online community school for post-capitalist living.
