This month we’re trying kinusaiga, traditional Japanese fabric art.
Here’s how it works: you take small pieces of fabric and tuck them into grooves on a base to build up a design, and the result is a beautiful quilt-like art piece. And guess what? No sewing or glue involved.
You’ll get to choose from a few templates to base your design on, so there’s no pressure to draw or plan anything from scratch.
Ultimately, the making is a great reason for us to come together, learn something new, and slow down. Something about working with your hands makes it easy to get curious, be present, and connect with the fellow makers around you.
I’ll get you started and then you’re off. Work at your own pace. No experience needed. Just come curious.
The details:
📅 Thursday, Oct 29, 5 to 7 PM
📍 The Space, Lougheed Town Centre (a room on the upper level, close to the Walmart and next to the gym)
What to expect:

Learn the basics of kinusaiga, a Japanese fabric craft
Choose from a selection of templates to base your design on
Build it up by tucking fabric into a carved base
Meet new people and create in the company of others
Good conversation while we create
Two hours, phones away, no pressure

Everything you need will be there. You’ll leave with a piece that’s uniquely yours, and hopefully a few new friendly faces too.
\📣 A quick note: Meetup only shows 10 spots, but we actually have room for 20 spots! If the list looks full, you’re still welcome, just send your e-transfer to reserve. I’ll message you to confirm your spot once it’s received, and I’ll keep the group updated on how many spots are left.
There is a $15 fee to help cover the cost of supplies. Kindly send your payment by e-transfer to [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) to reserve your spot :)
