Loop - Darton - Yorkshire Sculpture Park - 1

It is free to walk through the sculpture park as long as you stick to the designated path. If people would like to explore it more then it costs £10's to enter. It obviously will cost £10 to use the park's toilets and cafe etc... as they would be off the path. We will stop here for lunch, so people can have time to look around if they wish. Start Time: 10:15am - we will set off as soon as the train arrives. Miles/Kilometres: 10mi/16km Total ascent: 250m Difficulty: Moderate due to distance most will find this easy. Overview Meet on Mill Lane outside the small subway that goes under the railway. If you get the train from Leeds, its a short walk down the road and then through the subway. The walk starts by heading down to the River Dearne, crossing over the bridge and then along the B6131 through Kexborough until we can veer off onto a footpath that will cut through the farmland, passing woodland until we turn off onto the Barnsley Boundary footpath. We follow this through the woods until we come out into the hamlet of High Hoyland. We cut through the hamlet and then more fields and woodland, cross over the River Dearne again but much further upstream. We then follow the river into the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. We'll stop for lunch at the lakeside, if anyone wishes to explore, use the toilets and cafe then it will cost £10 to leave the footpath area. I will be doing so. I'll likely give people an 60-90 mins to explore, it is not a big park. If you wish to stay longer feel free but up to you to find your way back to Darton. Once ready we walk alongside the lakeside then out of the park to the A637. We follow this and cross over and walk around the roundabout for the M1, exiting onto Haigh Lane. Its a short walk down this road until we can take the footpath to be beside the River Dearne. The walk ends by following the footpath & river back to the start. We can then find a pub for food & drink. Disclaimers The walk organisers do not have training or insurance. Check the weather (on multiple websites) before leaving your residence. Bring clothing & footwear suitable for the forecast. We advise you to bring walking boots for any medium or harder walk. Trainers are only recommended for leisurely and easy walks. Bring a coat just in case (this is Britain after all...) and extra layers if it is going to be cold. All proceeds go towards equipment for leading walks, group events & trips. A percentage will go to charities. Bring a packed lunch and snacks. Bring enough food & water to last the estimated time.
