Autumn has arrived! The weather is mild, making it the perfect season for hiking!
On this trip, we will climb Mt. Akasaka in Shiga Prefecture, right near the border of Fukui.
When people think of "Akasaka," they usually imagine the luxury district in Tokyo, but this time we are heading to rural Akasaka in Shiga! ( ´
Historically, this area flourished as a vital military and logistics route. Because Lake Biwa was pivotal for transporting fish, food, and supplies from the Japan Sea to the ancient capital of Kyoto, it was the site of many 16th-century battles for control of the region. This mountain was actually used as a retreat route from the battlefields.
This area is famous for its stunning autumn foliage, featuring scenic dawn redwood trees at the foot of the mountain that frequently pop up on Instagram.
However, the true highlight of this area isn't just at the base—it's at the summit! From the top, you can enjoy panoramic views of:
1. The Japan Sea
2. Lake Biwa
3. The entire dawn redwood tree landscape ...all at the same time!
The peak has an altitude of 823 meters, but the trail is well-maintained with very few steep slopes or stairs. At the end of the hike, we can stop by Makino Kogen Onsen Sarasa to soothe our tired bodies! ♨
Why not come join us for a great hike, breathtaking scenery, and wonderful memories?
