This strenuous 8.6-mile hike takes you through a scenic section of Bearfort Mountain in Wawayanda State Park, with about 1,400 feet of elevation gain. We start with a scramble up to Terrace Pond, then head north along Bearfort Mountain's ridge before looping back to the parking lot. We'll see numerous scenic lookouts, and there should still be plenty of fall color. Breaks will be limited and short. We'll stop for lunch overlooking Pinecliff Lake. Pace will be 2+ mph.

Parking is in the lot known as P-7, just past the beginning of Bearfort Waters on your left as you go up Clinton Rd. It is just past the Project U.S.E. Wildcat Mountain Wilderness Center, for which you will probably see signs. On your way to P-7, you will pass P-4 and P-5. It is approx. 7.5 miles up Clinton Rd from the Rt 23 north turnoff.

This will be a challenging hike. If you are unsure of your ability to keep up with the pace and finish with the group, then you should find another hike.

Bring plenty of water and snacks, plus appropriate seasonal items (sun and insect protection in summer, and crampons in winter). Day-of-hike-only phone: 917-597-8212.

\Note\ We hike at a moderate to quick pace, and never leave anyone behind. Our hikes are not suitable for fast hikers who like to forge ahead of the group.

\To join our hikes, you must enable Meetup messaging with organizers (see "New to hiking" link below), and must post a profile image that can be used to recognize you. If you do not, you may be removed from Going list.
