It feels that we have agency and that we consciously make our own choices but we also know that every event has a cause.

So our decisions must be influenced by an array of prior events.

When I am confronted with picking one of two items, am I genuinely free or am I a prisoner of my past experiences?

Can we reconcile a scientific mindset with a subjective sense that we are free.

Reading Humanists’ Resident Philosopher, Mike Douglas, will explore this tension.
