The Christmas markets can wait until tomorrow.

Before Strasbourg turns into lights, mulled wine and approximately half of Europe squeezed into its historic centre,
we’re spending Friday discovering another side of the city.

One bar at a time.

For Raising the Bar 5, we’re heading across Strasbourg for an eight-stop journey through its drinking culture — from old neighbourhood institutions and local beer to stranger little bars, independent brewing and some rather more contemporary ways of ending an evening.

Because Strasbourg has always lived between worlds.

French and German, metropolitan and provincial, grand and scruffy, traditional and increasingly experimental.

Its bars tell some of that story surprisingly well.

We’ll start at 16:00, while there is still some daylight left, and gradually make our way through the city as Friday night takes over.

Expect eight very different stops, selected not simply because they serve good drinks, but because each has a personality of its own.

Some will be about beer.
Some decidedly less so.
The exact route remains a surprise.

🍻 How it works
As always with Raising the Bar, this is a tasting journey rather than an attempt to have a full drink everywhere.
Order what you like, skip a round whenever you like, eat when you need to, and pace yourself: we have a long evening ahead of us.
The point is to discover the places, the drinks and the city around them — not to race through eight pints.

👥 Maximum 12 participants
Places are limited to 12 people maximum.
Several of the bars on the route are fairly intimate, especially later in the evening, so keeping the group at this size should allow us to move around without turning every stop into a logistical operation.

💶 €10 deposit (“insurance”) after RSVP
As with previous editions, the deposit is fully refunded when you attend. It simply helps make sure the limited places go to people who genuinely intend to join.
