Let’s Learn is a weekly, in-person collaborative philosophy group that discusses a pre-planned topic as a team. Our goal is to learn about each other, ourselves, and how we construct our worldviews. No topic is off-limit, but Mike does bring his 15+ plus years of teaching experience to the group, acting as a moderator, to ensure that all attendees feel respected and safe as we discuss the issue of the day.
Here’s a list of just a few of the topics we’ve discussed:
Privacy, advice, childhood goals, mistakes, revenge, mortality, anger, coincidences, addiction, compulsion & habits self-esteem, the social contract, presumptions & assumptions (they’re different!).
In our post-COVID, isolated, digital world, spending quality, in-person time with others is just what the doctor ordered. Like a frog in slowly boiling water, we’ve adopted a lifestyle that’s wreaking havoc on our mental health. Community is the only cure!
Mike Oppenheim is an English, grammar, language, and creative writing professor with a 15+ year career teaching students from Junior High through College. He has an MFA from Mills College, an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from The University of California Berkeley, a Master's Certificate in Copyediting from The University of California San Diego, and a BA in Film Studies, English, and Philosophy from The University of Pittsburgh, summa cum laude.
