DESCRIPTION:
In my native Baselland, we will hike over Jura heights and plateaus, from Duggingen at 330m over a short steep step in the path to the Falkenflue cliff at 600m, over the Gempen Plateau to the dominant Gempen high cliffs at Schartenflue at 760m, where a paid watch tower (bring 1.- in coins) gives spectacular views from the Alps down the Rhine valley to Strasbourg in Alsace.
This is where we will eat our picnic lunch around 13:00.
Then we continue to the scenic fairytale Eremitage magic valley and ponds, climb the high castle of Birseck overlooking and protecting the valley, pass the cathedral Dom of Arlesheim, the fabulous chocolate manufacture Café Brändli, the extravagant Goetheanum in Dornach, and finish at the Dornach train station at 290m.
From Dornach, trains leave to Zurich HB every half hour at xx:09 and xx:39 and take between 1h25 and 1h50, departing until late into the night.
I would like to plan for either the 17:09 or 17:39 train back.
This should give us enough time for stops along the way.
Once we approach Eremitage in Arlesheim, it is mostly a cultural walk, so those who need to be home early can just walk through the village to the next one of many stations of buses, trams and trains heading for Basel and Zurich.
The whole area is one of the richest and most culturally developed areas of Switzerland since the middle ages. Medieval castles protect steep heights, magic forests, cherry trees dot the land to put Osaka to shame, hiking paths cross strikingly beautiful high plateaus, while in the valleys rich villas from pharma executives, medtech and watchmakers abound.

Picnic lunch and Water (It will be warm and it’s a long walk. There might be a village fountain or Restaurant every couple km where you can refill your bottle, no guarantee)

Good mood 😊
