Reading: Aristotle, Politics
Book VI, Chapters 5-8
Thursday, November 19, 6:30-8:30pm in Rice Village. RSVPs will receive directions to the location the week of the meeting.

After the discussion, those interested will adjourn to a nearby restaurant for dinner -- a valuable part of the experience.

Our October conversation covered chapters 1-4 of Book VI, on how to establish and preserve a successful, stable, long-lasting government where the regime is a hybrid combining elements of democracy, oligarchy and aristocracy. He starts with democracies -- how they can establish freedom, equality and justice under varying circumstances, and how this will likely play out in the four types of democracy.

In Chapters 5-8 he will take up how both democracies and oligarchies can be managed -- established and reformed over time to produce long-lasting prosperity where all groups and classes are satisfied and wish to continue the form of govermnent. Easy to say, difficult to achieve, always vulnerable to decay,
