Four days before Christmas, the sun stops.
It is the longest night of the year. The light falls to its lowest point, and from that exact moment it starts to come back. For thousands of years this was one of the most important nights of the year, not for presents or dinners, but for what people did with it: they stopped, they gathered, they looked honestly at what the year had been, and they decided what they were going to carry into the next one.
We prepare Christmas very well. We buy, we cook, we travel, we plan the days. And we almost never prepare ourselves for the year we are about to walk into.
That is the part that decides how the year goes. What you carry in, and what you leave behind.
On Sunday 20 December we sit in a circle at the ashram in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, at the darkest point of the year, and we do that work: look at what has ended, put down what you do not want to carry, and light one candle for what you do want to bring.
What happens in the evening
17:00 — Opening the sacred circle. The real meaning of the solstice: its connection to Christmas, to the rhythm of nature and to your own life.
17:30 — The four suns. The four phases of a cycle, and the honest question: where are you in yours, what is closing, what are you still carrying? We work with what has ended, not with what you would have preferred to end.
19:15 — The candle ceremony. You plant the seed of your coming year: one intention, spoken in the circle, and a candle lit for it.
19:45 — Shamanic drum meditation: the rebirth of the sun. An hour-long journey through darkness, stillness and renewal, with time to come back slowly.
20:45 — Integration and closing. Tea, optional sharing, and a quiet close at 21:00.
Who guides it: Pablo Teiwaz. He has been holding circles, rituals and drum meditations in Brussels and on retreat for more than ten years, in the Siberian shamanic tradition he was initiated in. No performance, and nothing you have to believe.
You do not need experience. You do not need to bring a drum: the drum is played for you, and there are mats, blankets and cushions here. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a warm layer. If you want, bring one small object for the altar.
Ten places only. €50. The evening is guided in English.
