AI Literacy for Educators - A One-Day Hands-On Workshop

Please Register on Luma or you won't get the provided lunch!

You’ve heard about AI. You’ve probably used it. But can you explain to a student why it got something wrong—or why it got something right?
This hands-on workshop is designed to go beyond simply using AI tools. We want to understand the challenges educators face in the classroom and help you build a deeper understanding of how AI works, where it fails, and how to use it critically and responsibly.

What to expect
This first session is all about building a strong foundation. You’ll train a biased AI model, explore how AI systems fail, and develop a practical mental framework you can apply to any AI tool.
More importantly, we want to hear from you. What challenges are you facing in the classroom? Where could AI make a meaningful difference for teachers and students?

Agenda
9:00 AM – Welcome and introductions
9:30 AM – MA AI Hub, MassTech Collaborative: Supporting AI literacy and innovation in education
9:40 AM – Part 1: Understanding AI. Look behind the screen: how AI works, why it gets things wrong, and how to use it with confidence and critical judgment.
11:40 AM – Part 2: Designing with AI. Bring a real classroom challenge and, with your peers, design an AI-supported idea for your students. Tech volunteers will support you along the way. No technical skills needed. (Lunch provided)
1:30 PM – Share your ideas. See what other teams imagined and leave with an idea ready to try in your classroom.
2:00 PM – Closing and next steps

\No technical background required. Just your laptop is needed\

This workshop is just the first step. Our goal is not only to help educators understand AI, but to put them at the center of designing AI solutions for the classroom.
Have an idea for a tool that could help you or your students? On November 14, you’ll also have the opportunity to join our AI Builder Session, working alongside researchers and developers create solutions for the classrooms that work for you.
