Cost: Donations
I will post a lunch BEFORE the museums also.
Earlier, we saw some of the south-side museums in Jefferson Barracks. Now, we will visit the JB museums on the north side. According to the website, both museums are free, but donations are accepted, and they recommend $3.
Powder Magazine Museum. Museums on the north side include the Old Ordnance Museum, the Powder Museum, and the Laborer's House. You can, of course, see other museums on the south side of the park also.
Visitor's Center: We will meet here.
Old Ordnance Room Museum
The Old Ordnance Room is primarily used for changing/temporary historical exhibitions. The current exhibit: "Communication is key during times of war. A military must stay connected to each other in combat and connected at home to ensure their success. The United States utilized media to inform the public about the war effort and how they could help achieve victory. From coded field communication to censored letters back home and the headlines that informed millions, Between the Lines explores the vital role communication takes when a nation goes to war." It opens at noon.
Powder Magazine:
"The Powder Magazine Museum displays St. Louis County Parks’ core collection of artifacts that tell the story of the history of Jefferson Barracks from its inception in 1826 until its closure in 1946."
I have requested entry to the Laborer's House - if Jefferson Barracks is successful in employing weekend staff, we will be able to visit the Laborer's House:
Laborer's House:
The Laborers' House and Ordnance Stable were built in 1851. The house was for civilian laborers who handled the movement and storage of powder and ordnance here at Jefferson Barracks. After the Civil War, the ordnance keeper and his family lived here.
