Most folks go to the woods to get away from the noise and nonsense of daily living. If you must have music bring ear buds or headphones. If you have a need to "PARTY" like it's 1999 or any other year this event is most likely not for you! Thank you for your consideration.
ASSUMPTION OF RISK: YOUR RSVP TO ATTEND A "SUNCOAST OUTDOORS " SPONSORED EVENT IS YOUR EXPRESS ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF UNDERSTANDING AND UNCONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE OF FULL PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY AND LIABILITY FOR ALL ASSOCIATED RISKS. Possible risks from participation include, but are not limited to: Injury from a trip & fall, venomous snakes, stinging insects, venomous spiders, wildlife encounters, heat stroke, noxious vegetation, weather related injury, insect or airborne transmissible virus and disease, smoke inhalation, wildfire, falling trees. This list is not all inclusive.
This will be an 11 mile +/- overnight hike from the McNeil trailhead located on FL471 north of Lakeland, FL to the Concession campsite and return to the Ranch Road trail head. The hiking pace will be "hike your own hike".
1. Everyone is to meet at Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve - West Tract\, Dade City\, FL (aka Ranch Road trail head) parking lot Saturday morning no later than 8:00 a.m. We will shuttle hikers 20 miles to the McNeil trailhead. I plan to be stepping out by 10:00 a.m. Our first day will cover 7 miles +/- and our overnight destination will be Concession campsite.
2. Concession campsite has plenty of room for both tent and hammock camping.
3. There will be no provisions available for this event. You will be responsible for providing all your equipment needs\, food\, and water. The hand pump at Concession will be our primary water source. If the pump is dry water can be obtained from the marsh area near the campsite. Water filtering/purification is highly recommended. Saturday night campfire will depend on wood availability in the surrounding area.
4. Sunday\, plan to step out about 9 a.m. and hike the remaining 3 miles +/- back to the Ranch Road trail head parking lot. Drivers that shuttled hikers to the McNeil trailhead will need to be shuttled back to their vehicles.
5. As this has become an annual event of sorts we will meet for brunch after the hike at Kafe Kokopelli\, 37940 Live Oak Ave\, Dade City\, FL 33523.
Text (813) 376-5040 day of the hike. Cell phone reception questionable due to location.
