In November the Wellington Modern Classics Book Club is reading The Stranger by Albert Camus, a spare and provocative novel of alienation, absurdity, morality, and what it means to live in a world without inherent meaning.
Set in French Algeria, the novel follows Meursault, an emotionally detached young man whose seemingly ordinary life is upended by a sudden act of violence. As he confronts the consequences of his actions, he finds himself increasingly alienated from the expectations and values of the society around him.
Unsettling, philosophical, and darkly compelling, The Stranger explores absurdism, mortality, freedom, social convention, and the ways we search for meaning in an indifferent world.
Meeting held at Southern Cross Bar, 1pm, see you there!
p.s. If you can no longer make it please let us know by cancelling so that any others on the waitlist are able to come =)
