Ever think about what it looks like to be psychologically healthy (and thriving)? Does that look different among people, or are there similarities that undergird all psychologically healthy people?
In this meetup, we’ll be reading and discussing Chapter 11, “Self-Actualizing People: A Study of Psychological Health,” from Abraham Maslow’s Motivation and Personality (1954). In it, Maslow profiles people he considered especially healthy and creative, and describes the traits they seemed to share, like acceptance of themselves and others, spontaneity, a strong sense of purpose, and deep relationships.
We’ll talk about what resonates, what feels dated or debatable, and how these ideas show up (or don’t) in our own lives.
Optional reading: Chapter 12, Love in Self Actualizing People.
Before we meet: Please read the chapter, which is available free here. If you can't access the link for whatever reason, please feel free to message me individually or in the event chat. Come with a favorite passage or a question you’d like to bring up.
All backgrounds and perspectives are welcome!
