Moth Night - I GOT IT FROM MY MAMA

Thu 20 Aug · 12:30pm · Public House

Doors open at 7PM. We'll begin storytelling at 7:30PM sharp! Love a good story? So do we. Join us for a cozy night of live storytelling, inspired by The Moth, the U.S. nonprofit fostering connection through personal storytelling. Like The Moth, our mission is to connect authentically and build a community centered on shared human experience. Our group spans a wide range of ages, backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives - we'd love to have you! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EVENT SCHEDULE 7:00PM – 7:30PM — Doors Open Feel free to come early if you'd like to chat or grab a bite. One drink minimum per person. 7:30PM – 8:45PM — PART ONE: Casual Storytelling Casual, on-the-spot prompts for everyone. Low stakes, high fun. No preparation needed. 8:45PM – 9:30PM — PART TWO: Prepared Performances Prepared performances - storytellers must sign up in advance here. Stories must be related to this month's theme. 9:30PM onwards — Unwind & Connect Spend some time with new friends! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All stories (both casual and prepared) follow The Moth's style: True, personal and told in the first person No longer than 5 minutes Told from memory (no reading) Rooted in emotion, vulnerability & self-growth -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just want to listen? Perfect! We're looking for eager storytellers and story-listeners! Every storyteller needs a kind, curious, and responsive audience. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This month's theme: I GOT IT FROM MY MAMA Prepare a five-minute story about what runs in the family. From memorized Sunday sauces to generational trauma wrapped in questionable traditions. Fashion tips and whispered warnings. Sharp tongues and sharper cheekbones. Tell tales of inherent humor, proud features, warm embraces and the advice only a matriarch can deliver. Explore our motherly ties and those before them that shape our worldview and make you, you. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to perform? If you'd like to prepare a 5-minute story on this month's theme (see above), review The Moth's storytelling tips and sign up here - spots are limited\, so we'll be drawing names from a hat. If it's your first time performing with our group, message Shaf directly to discuss community guidelines. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Whether you’re a seasoned storyteller or just love to listen, come be part of something special. Let’s build a community where stories spark connection, meaning, and lots of laughter. We'll be in the library area at the back of the lobby. Make sure to introduce yourself to Shaf if it's your first time! We'll be at Public House again this month. One drink minimum per person.
