The WordPress Helsinki meetup group aims to bring people together of all skill levels, from beginners to WordPress professionals. WordPress Helsinki is purely organised by community volunteers, and operates under the WordPress code of conduct.

This month, we welcome Daniel Spycher to speak about WordPress plugin development. Plugins first arrived in WordPress 1.2, and a lot has changed in the 22 years since. Today the official directory hosts more than 70,000 of them, covering everything from A for appointment scheduling to Z for zero-spam solutions.

But how do you build a plugin in the first place? How does it make its way into the repository? Can anyone just upload whatever they like?
In this talk, Daniel takes you on a sightseeing tour through the entire process, from the first idea and rough sketches to an Plugin anyone can install with a single click.
Stops along the route include research, prototyping, coding, testing, and finally publishing via SVN. The session is less a step-by-step tutorial and more a travelogue, with something to take away whatever stage you are at. Drawing from over 10 years of hands-on development experience, Daniel also shares a few things worth avoiding and the lessons learned the hard way.
Whether you’re planning your first plugin or just curious how it all works, there is a lot to see and lean on that trip.

Daniel has been a WordPress developer and web designer for over 10 years. He enjoys building efficient systems and automating repetitive tasks. He is especially interested in tools that save time and reduce manual work.

See you there!
