About the Book

Jo Jones has always had a little trouble fitting in. She’s a neurodivergent, hyperlexic book editor and divorced New Yorker who finds herself transplanted to the English countryside, where both her Americanisms and her autism make her stand out.
After losing her job, her mother, and her marriage in the same year, Jo takes possession of a possibly haunted—and clearly unwanted—family estate in North Yorkshire. But her fresh start takes an unexpected turn when the town groundskeeper is found dead on her rug, and Jo becomes both a potential suspect and possibly a target.
Then a mysterious family portrait disappears from a secret room in the manor, with strange connections to the murder and Jo’s own family history. With help from an eclectic group of locals, Jo sets out to clear her name, find the missing painting, and uncover secrets about the town—and herself—before the killer strikes again.
