Riverwood Downs is tremendous little spot in the Monkerai Valley on the banks of the Karuah River and only 2.5 hours drive north of Sydney. We can spend the weekend here camping by the river and enjoying canoeing, swimming, walking and platypus spotting. The private campground has hot showers, flush toilets and even its own restaurant! All details are available on the website here Award-Winning Barrington Tops Accommodation | Riverwood Downs
Fun fact: at the start of the Men at Work film clip to "Down Under" the kombi has "Tanelorn" written on the front, this is a reference to the epic "Tanelorn" rock music festival that was held at Riverwood Downs in 1981!
The plan is to arrive at Riverwood Downs from 5PM on Friday November 27. I will book riverfront campsites for three people on each site. These sites costs $50 per person for two nights. As this is a popular campsite I will book the sites for each person as I receive payment. Please pay $50 into my bank account, details are Ian Dutton BSB 112879 Account no 032433687. PayID is 0439543695. Please make a comment on the message board when you have paid referencing your name (and meetup name if it is different.) The sites are fairly large with a size of 64 square meres so there should be enough room for cars on the site but if not some cars may need to be parked in the overflow parking, 500 metres from the campsites.
Refunds can be given up until 10 October but with a 10% admin fee, ie a $45 refund if you need to cancel before 10 October.
If you don't do camping, no problem, you can book cabin-style accommodation at Riverwood Downs if that suits you!
If you prefer to go but book your own campsite or accommodation, that is no problem but please advise me of your intentions in this regard.
On Friday night attendees are free to have their own camp-style meal or there is the option of having dinner and a beverage at the restaurant or cafe-details are provided here Dining | Barrington Bar & Grill | Riverwood Downs.
On Saturday platypus can be spotted at dawn in the river. We can then have breakfast from the cafe and then we have all day to enjoy the myriad of activities; you can launch your own canoe into the quiet river or hire a canoe for $30. There is also swimming (at your own risk so please take care for the weak swimmers.) There also a 5km walking track around through the forest and along the river. In the evening there is also platypus spotting, and pub-style eating and drinking. We may also have a campfire pending current weather conditions and permits or bans.
For this meetup there is a $20 gratuity payable in cash at the commencement of the meetup or payable as a bank transfer or PayID above.
Please note that activities such as swimming and canoeing do have a risk factor and that venemous snakes can also be prevalent at this time of year.
