Hi!
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
"Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird."
A lawyer's advice to his children as he defends the real mockingbird of Harper Lee's classic novel - a black man charged with the rape of a white girl. Through the young eyes of Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores with exuberant humour the irrationality of adult attitudes to race and class in the Deep South of the 1930s. The conscience of a town steeped in prejudice, violence and hypocrisy is pricked by the stamina of one man's struggle for justice. But the weight of history will only tolerate so much." - Good reads
I’m new in town and want to create a cosy, friendly space for myself and others to meet new people and hopefully make friends. The idea is a small, welcoming English-language book club that meets on weekends at different cafés around Graz, with a focus on books written by women (those who identify as women). The goal is simple: good books, good coffee, and good conversation.
Come along if you enjoy:
thoughtful book discussions
discovering places around Graz
meeting new people in a relaxed setting
Location: potentially Weitzer Cafe in the center of town
Time: 11:00 am
When: Sunday 18th October
Everyone is welcome, regardless of background or gender.
Looking forward to meeting fellow readers!
