SCENES FROM THE RHINE
Let's travel to the German Rhineland as conductor Kristiina Poska makes her SLSO debut in a concert that celebrates European folk music. Rising-star pianist Marie-Ange Nguci shines in Mozart’s sweet Piano Concerto No. 21. And Robert Schumann’s Third Symphony emphasizes the vibrant culture along the Rhine River in Germany. This concert was chosen on the recommendation of a number of our members.

We have discounted pricing of $31.50, which includes the ticket fees. See the detailed purchase instructions below.

Vito's Sicilian Ristorante is an 8 minute walk from Powell Hall. It is suggested, weather permitting, that you park nearest Powell and walk to and from the restaurant for dinner. With our 4:45 reservation, we'll eat early enough to allow us to get to the pre-concert talk at 6:30. Be sure to respond about dinner with your RSVP.

Parking/Shuttles
Parking availability is always much better the earlier you arrive. Coming early for dinner and the pre-concert talk helps you secure more favorabale parking close to Powell. There is some street parking and a number of lots. A detailed parking map is in the images here and available at this link https://slso.org/plan-your-visit/parking/

There is shuttle service available to Powell Hall from two locations. See this detail https://slso.org/plan-your-visit/symphony-shuttle/

More on the Program

Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 earned its nickname, “Elvira Madigan,” nearly 200 years after it was written, after it was used as the primary music for the exquisite 1967 Swedish romance film of the same name.
Beginning her studies at the Paris Conservatory at age 13, Marie-Ange Nguci has been recently lauded for her “blazing technique and a deeply poetic temperament.”
Robert Schumann often composed in quick bursts, whenever inspiration struck. His Symphony No. 3 was completed in just under five weeks, but even that short timeline did not set a record, as his First Symphony was written in just four days.
