Important to know

Anticipated Weather on Hike Day

This is a 3 mile hike along the river on the Capital Trail. We begin in the public parking lot at 16 Nicholson Street and make our way south to the Capital Trail. We'll follow the Capital Trail west to 17th Street turning north here to reach Franklin Street. We'll pass the oldest Jewish Cemetery in Richmond before climbing the stairs which will take us to Richmond Hill. There we'll follow Grace Street back to Libby Hill and our start point.

There is no requirement to be able to ford a stream, or possess the ability to recognize toxic plants, negotiate rocks, roots, fallen trees, damp trail conditions, vines, low hanging branches, culverts, uncertain footing on hills, reptiles, spider webs, scorpions, birds of prey, or migratory waterfowl. But beware of those unaligned brick sidewalks that have been there since day one! And the branches that project out over the walkways from the gardens.

If you are unfamiliar with the meet up location, add a few minutes to your travel schedule so you won't get left behind. You may encounter road construction at the intersection of E. Main St & Williamsburg Rd. Best to avoid this.
If you don't have a clue about the location of the Nicholson Street parking lot, click on the arrow at "How to Find Us" in the event description. An interactive map will be displayed and when "Directions" (on the left) is selected the best route from your current location to the Meet Up rendezvous spot will be revealed to you. Before the hike be sure to place anything that might invite theft in your trunk before you leave your car parked while you are hiking.
Participants should be able to maintain a pace of 2.5 miles per hour. This is a very dog friendly hike.
