Let's soak in some fall forest vibes on this out-and-back trail in Mt. Hood national forest. We'll meander through the old growth forest along the Salmon river, keeping an eye out for the huge variety of native plants and fungi, before climbing to a viewpoint to survey the surrounding forests.

Plan to arrive in time for a prompt 10:00 am departure. Expect a steady pace without too many breaks. This is a moderately challenging hike with significant distance and a good bit of elevation in the later section, and is not recommended for those who are brand new to hiking. There may be muddy conditions and downed trees to climb over. We'll plan to arrive back at the trailhead around 2pm, depending on the groups pace. There will likely be an optional stop for food on the way back to Portland.

Bring: sturdy hiking shoes or boots, weather-appropriate clothing, plenty of water, snacks, and an extra layer.

Well-behaved dogs are always welcome! Please don't bring any dogs that are aggressive towards people or other dogs.

Carpooling is encouraged and can be coordinated in the comments. All vehicles at the trailhead will need to display a valid NW Forest pass.

My goal is to ensure that all attendees have a safe and enjoyable experience, but please be aware that I am a volunteer host and not a professional guide. By attending this hike, you acknowledge that you are accepting sole responsibility for your own safety and well-being. Please come prepared, know your own limits, and hike at your own risk.
