A post-birthday walk from Thatcham to Newbury, 5.6 miles, leisurely

Today's walk, to follow on from the walk leader's birthday earlier in the week, will be along the canal from Thatcham to Newbury. Starting at Thatcham station, we'll follow the canal towards Thatcham Lakes, where we'll loop around the canal as well as have lunch there. From here, we'll then continue along the canal towards Newbury via Newbury Manor Marina and Victoria Park to finish the walk on Northbrook Street. For those who want a pint at the end of the walk, we'll be stopping off at The Lock, Stock and Barrel with its canal side location. Difficulty: Leisurely Distance: 9km / 5.6mi Ascent: 11m / 36ft Type: linear TRAINS: The recommended train to get from Reading is the 11:43 GWR service that arrives in Thatcham at 11:59. PARKING: Thatcham station has a good size car park, where parking feels apply. Please note, that as this is a linear walk, you'll have to make your way back here afterwards. DOGS: Dogs are welcome on this walk as long as they're well behaved.
