We are honored to welcome Venerable Thubten Chonyi and Venerable Thubten Dekyi from Sravasti Abbey in Washington state for a special evening of Dharma teachings and meditation on the timely topic: Compassion in Action
We all want to live in a kinder, more compassionate world. But how do we actually cultivate compassion—and put it into action in the midst of everyday life?

Join Venerable Thubten Chonyi and Venerable Thubten Dekyi, Buddhist nuns from Sravasti Abbey, for an evening exploring practical ways to strengthen compassion within ourselves and bring it into our relationships, our communities, and the challenges we encounter every day.

Compassion is not simply something we either have or don’t have. It is a capacity we can cultivate. Through Buddhist teachings, reflection, and conversation, Ven. Chonyi and Ven. Dekyi will share ways to develop the qualities that help us meet difficult times with greater kindness, joy, resilience, and an open heart.

About the Teachers:
Venerable Thubten Chonyi has studied Buddhism under the guidance of Venerable Thubten Chodron for 30 years, eventually ordaining at her teacher’s monastery, Sravasti Abbey, in 2008 and receiving full ordination in Taiwan in 2011. With a background in theatre and publicity, Ven. Chonyi is primarily involved in Sravasti Abbey’s communications and regularly gives Dharma talks both locally and afar. Born and raised in Atlanta, she is delighted to share the Buddhist perspective in her hometown.
Here’s a playlist of her talks.

Raised in Olympia, WA, Venerable Thubten Dekyi holds a degree in Natural Resource Management. She worked as a wildlife biologist before encountering Buddhism in 2006 through a teaching by Venerable Thubten Chodron. Inspired by Sravasti Abbey’s community, she began offering service and attending retreats, moving to the community in 2019. Her love of nature continues to guide her path as a dedicated monastic.

Whether you're new to Buddhism or have an established practice, this evening offers a heartfelt and practical exploration of how to live with compassion, clarity, and courage.

All welcome, no experience necessary.
These sessions are open to everyone, whether you’re new to Buddhism or an experienced practitioner. There is no charge; donations are welcome. Please wear appropriate clothing for a church (e.g., no bare shoulders or knees). If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. We look forward to seeing you later this month!
