Hello Ladies. Let's enjoy another another great read and book - The American Queen (Historical Fiction).
The Plot: This historical novel is based on the true, little-known post-Civil War story of the "Kingdom of the Happy Land".
The Story: It follows Luella Bobo Montgomery, a Black woman who was enslaved for 24 years. After the Civil War ends, she and an honorable reverend named William lead an exodus of newly freed Black people.
The Setting: They travel from Mississippi through the South to the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, where they purchase and build a thriving, independent community. William and Luella become the appointed king and queen of this self-proclaimed, safe haven of entrepreneurship and freedom.
