The Latest in Shark Conservation Research in Thailand

Sharks remain to be some of the most misunderstood animals among the general public across much of the world. Perhaps also being mysterious and elusive creatures, but portrayed by media as monsters, hasn't helped. Despite being some of the most intelligent, graceful and sought-after attractions among the marine recreational community, their drastic declines around the world have unfortunately still been overlooked.

Luckily in Thailand, we have a remarkable group of marine biologists working hard to document, understand, protect and repopulate these funky fish. Join us as some of the leading figures in shark conservation in the country come together to share the latest news and research being done across Thailand towards a common goal.

A few short talks talks with plenty of breaks for drinks and nibbles, before a nerdy discussion with the following speakers:

- Metavee Chuangcharoendee (StAR Project)
''How citizen science leads to active conservation''

- Kirsty Magson (Thai Whale Sharks)
''Spotting Giants: Whale Shark ID & Tracking in Thailand''

- Dr. Wanlada Klangnurak (King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang)
''How DNA helps us save sharks''

We're excited to partner with Buenazo - Cevicheria & Peruvian Eatery in Thong Lor, Bangkok, to host this first-of-its-kind event. Backed by Na Projects, a social enterprise in Bangkok, the restaurant prioritizes local, sustainably caught seafood from small-scale local fishers, hormone-free chicken, and eco-friendly design. Vegetarian, cocktail and mocktail menus are also available for those not wanting to embrace their inner shark too closely. The restaurant has a limited number of tables so will be prioritising attendees registered on meetup first.

This in-person only event will run from 7pm to 9pm and is an easy 5 minute walk from BTS Thong Lor. The event is free though of course we ask you support our host venue by trying something from their famous menu! Spaces are limited to allow for easy participation from all so confirm quick!
