Discovery Park is Seattle's largest park, a 560-acre natural area occupying most of the former Fort Lawton site. Situated on Magnolia Bluff overlooking Puget Sound, Discovery Park boasts spectacular views of both the Cascade and the Olympic Mountain ranges. The secluded site includes two miles of protected tidal beaches as well as open meadow lands, dramatic sea cliffs, forest groves, active dunes, thickets and streams.
We will meet between 1:45 and 2 at the North parking lot, which is served by the 33 Metro Bus. The walk starts promptly at 2.
We will hike the loop plus the North and South beach for a total of about 5 miles with several
opportunities to cut short.
This is a rain or shine event. Note: If bad rain we may do a winter route that is shorter (~ 2 hours) due
to rain and mud, hiking on paved trails and roads instead of muddy and sometimes slippery steps.
See Discovery Park Map for more detail.
Event Leader: Rick Grove 206-769-8628, [email protected]
Safety: 911 (City of Seattle) and tell them where you are in the park.
Risks: Tripping on roots across trail, mud and slippery park trail stairs.
NOTE: The Discovery Park Visitor Center is closed until summer 2027
