Hayes Common and Keston Ponds Loop

A truly wonderful 9.5 mile walk in the wonderful Kent countryside ! Using Oyster Cards you need to take the 10.18am train from London Bridge, usually platform 6 or 7, to Hayes in Kent which arrives at 10.51am. With no Oyster card you need to purchase a return ticket from London Bridge to Hayes (Kent) The walk shall commence by 11am at the entrance to Hayes Station where Neil will meet you. Three points of interest on the walk; We walk alongside the famous Battle of Britain airfield of Biggin Hill which now has its own museum and at the entrance both Hurricane and Spitfire original airplanes. We pass Holwood House, once home of William Pitt the younger, UK prime minister 1783-1800 We pass the famous Wilberforce Oak where Pitt and William Wilberforce agreed to abolish slavery Or you may decide to drive. Please bring packed lunch , water, snacks etc, waterproof jacket and walking shoes or trainers plus sunhat, suncream and sunglasses. You should have adequate insurance for this type of activity and be able to walk 2.5 miles per hour. We shall have a drink at the end of the walk at a Real Ale pub opposite the station. We shall aim to take the train back to London at around 4.30pm. There are trains every 15 minutes. Meetup fee £5 payable in cash or by bank transfer in advance.
