Most of us have heard in local news or social media about Gayle Pille, a naturalist and wildlife photographer in her 70s who owns approximately 45 wooded acres along Woolper Creek in northern Boone County. Over the years Gayle planted over 1000 native trees, plus native grasses, wildflowers, shrubs, and River Cane in her woods to create habitat for wildlife and restore the land as a natural refuge.
But to solve sewer overflow problems in northern Boone County's developed areas which are served by the sewers, Northern KY's sewer utility SD1 wants to run a new sewer line through Gayle's woods, including creek crossings, threatening a huge amount of damage and disruption to the natural area Gayle created and nurtured. SD1 chose this option over others which used other paths which were initially favored in engineering studies. And Gayle's home isn't even served by the SD1 sewers since it's on a septic system.
Northern KY Sierra Club's public meeting on Monday October 26 will feature a presentation about this situation by Gayle and her friend Jennifer Watts who started the Facebook page called “Save Future Nature Preserve In Boone County KY” to help Gayle in her fight against SD1. The meeting will be in the Mark Twain meeting room of the Erlanger Public Library, 6:30-8pm. Our room reservation is 6-8:30pm, so all are welcome to arrive early and stay late.
