Quabbin Reservoir Hike - Rabbit Run Rail Bed and Soapstone Hill Loop

It’s fall in New England, a perfect time to be hiking in the forest. Please join the Sierra Club MA Chapter on a 5.6 mile hike in the watershed forest near the Quabbin Reservoir (Petersham, MA). There are beautiful views of the reservoir along the trail and at the summit of Soapstone Hill. If we’re lucky, we should see peak fall foliage. The elevation gain on the hike is 680 feet with a short, steep climb up to Soapstone Hill.

During the outing we will be discussing the Quabbin Reservoir, its history, the watershed public lands, and their benefits. We will also be speaking about the MA Chapter Forest Protection Team’s campaign to end logging on the state lands of the Quabbin, Ware, and Wachusett watersheds. Sign the petition here.

Signup Restrictions: There is a limit of 20 people for this outing due to limited parking at the trailhead.

Level: Moderate, participants are to be in good physical condition.

Cancellation Policy: Steady rain cancels.

Rain date: If the hike gets cancelled due to rain on Oct. 25, it will be rescheduled to Oct. 31.
