Join us for a beautiful winter walk through historic Winchester and its glorious surrounding countryside, with riverside scenery, wonderful views and plenty of festive cheer! 🥾🌿✨

⭐️ Explore historic Winchester
Discover charming old streets and hear a little about the city’s fascinating history and magnificent cathedral.

⭐️ Walk along the River Itchen 🌊
Follow this beautiful chalk stream through peaceful water meadows, fields and woodland, enjoying the winter scenery along the way.

⭐️ Climb St Catherine’s Hill 🥾
We’ll head up this ancient hill, crowned by the earthworks of an Iron Age fort, for sweeping views across Winchester and the Itchen Valley. A wonderful spot for photographs! 📸

⭐️ Stop at the Hospital of St Cross 🏛️
Nestled beside the water meadows, this beautiful medieval almshouse dates back to 1132. We’ll stop to soak up the atmosphere and admire its historic buildings—a special part of our route back towards Winchester.

⭐️ Enjoy Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market 🎄✨
Explore the festive wooden chalets in the cathedral grounds, browsing gifts, crafts and seasonal treats amid twinkling lights and the warming scent of mulled wine and cinnamon.

⭐️ Finish at a historic pub 🍽️🍺
We’ll round off the day with food, drinks and a well-earned warm-up!

🚆 MEETING & TRAIN DETAILS
⭐️ Meet at London Waterloo at 9.30am, under the clock on the main concourse.
⭐️ Train departs at 10.09am, arriving in Winchester at 11.21am.

⭐️ Walk: approximately 4.5 miles, circular.

⭐️ Organiser fee: £10.

🧣🧤 WHAT TO WEAR
Please wear warm layers, waterproof outerwear, gloves and sturdy walking shoes with good grip. A good level of general fitness is required, including for the climb up St Catherine’s Hill.
